jacket: Club Monaco; cami & shirt: Aritzia; skirt: Club Monaco; bag: Rebecca Minkoff; necklace & cuff: DANNIJO
Someone’s looking a little mischievous. It could be that I’m about to break out into my personal rendition of the Funky Chicken or…
It could be that I was tempted to visit Club Monaco by their charming pre-fall collection where I spotted this darling rendition of a varsity jacket, despite vowing off shopping (I know, I know- this wasn’t a battle I was likely to win). Once on, the plethora of potential pairings it could offer was too great to decline. One such lovely pairing included this flirty printed skirt, which then also had to be purchased (BAD CHLOE). The financial implications were nothing compared with the giddy anticipation I felt at the prospect of wearing this outfit for the first time.
Ever since I was a wee little thing, the anticipation of wearing an outfit for the first time has made me absolutely gleeful. One of my earliest sartorial memories is from when I was six. I was so enthralled by a new dress (technically it was a yellow shirt of my mum’s that I belted- I was especially pleased with this reinvention) that in my excitement, I put the dress on and completely forgot underwear(!!)…a detail I became aware of later at school when my teacher asked us all to sit Indian-style on the rug. (I thought at the time this was the most embarrassing thing that could ever happen to me but a few weeks later, my classroom crush walked in on me in the bathroom…AWKWARD.)
Back in the present, I am most definitely wearing underwear (in case you were concerned, dear reader- this skirt does have a propensity to waft up). Undergarments aside, the enthusiasm I feel for new duds has not waned over the years. I am like a cheerleader filled with pep and sartorial spirit- which makes the collegiate-inspired jacket all the more appropriate, don’t you think?
Hope you all have an amazing Tuesday!
wow love the skirt & the bag! awesome
Thanks so much!
where do you take your style inspo?
An easier question would be where don’t I get inspiration from because it’s literally everywhere from New York City streets to the blogosphere, magazine pages to movie screens, from friends to strangers. I’ve always been observant by nature so wherever I am, whatever I’m doing, I’m constantly looking out for sparks of creativity that spark my own originality. Great question!
The skirt looks very versatile! Love it!
I absolutely agree. Especially at this time of year, I think it’s important to find items that are transitional, i.e. worn with sandals and bare legs right now and then with tights and boots in the Fall. Thanks so much for commenting
Great outfit!

I don’t think I would have been “attracted” to that jacket in the store, and even if it did show up on my closet I probably wouldn’t have thought “hmm, I should wear you with a floral skirt.” I am very glad that you have these kinds of thoughts, because this looks great.
And I know you’re all excited about your new duds, but I reeaaally hope you’ll consider participating in my outfit challenge this week!! I feel like you would be good at this
Sarah’s Real Life
Hi Sarah,
I absolutely love the idea of your challenge but when I tried to think about contributing, I hit a wall. While I have plenty of accessories that are old enough to qualify, when it comes to cohesive garments, my wardrobe falls a little short. This is in large part due to how much my life has changed over the last two years (this time period included one enormous move and three different jobs- it was a little crazy). I can’t wait to see what other people contribute and hope you do more challenges in the future that I can participate in!
