skirt: Whistles; tee: H&M; heels: Zara; necklace: Whistles; cuff: DANNIJO; sunnies: SEE
I was going to launch into this post today by tipping my hat to London, which after a slightly wobbly opening ceremony (it was a bit bumpy, no?) has stepped up and looks to be on its way to successfully pulling out these Olympic Games with no shortage of highlights (YAY MURRAY!). I was then planning on leading into my lovely pleated skirt (last seen here) from Whistles, an absolutely amazing British company that is a must-see every time I’m in London. But it occurred to me that one very pertinent piece of information was missing (now that I think of it, it seems crazy that I haven’t mentioned this in the 3-plus months style sprite has existed- at least I don’t think I’ve mentioned it).
Now it’s time for the big reveal… I am technically English. DUN DUN DUNNNNNNNNN!
Everything is probably falling into place for you right now- my slightly quirky sensibility, my playful prose, not to mention the English Rose complexion all now have a source. I was born in London and I still hold a British passport (not an American one) which is especially funny as I’ve spent most of my life here in the States (specifically NYC) and have a demonstrably American accent although I do pronounce the ‘H’ in herb and also use a short ‘O’ to pronounce yogurt (this my American friends always find most hilarious).
So you see it’s only natural that I would revel in London’s moment in the international spotlight (plus reveling is the only thing to do when faced with the washboard abs of men’s swimming- HOLY MOLY!) and what better way to do that than with a floaty midi-skirt printed with the joys of an English summer day?! Quite so!!
My mind has been blown!!!!! Also…love this look, especially the heels.
Cheerio!
Sarah’s Real Life
Oh no! This is no time for mind blowing- you have more What to Wear permutations to create
So true! I have to make new ones for the school year soon!
Perfect pairing!
Thank hon, hope you’re well
I love the whole outfit and I’m not usually a fan of yellow! The heels are fantastic though.
Hi Rachel,
I hear you on yellow, I am generally wary of anything that can make me look garish but this skirt was so pretty, I had to throw caution to the wind! Thanks for visiting
gorgeous, gorgeous look. have some nice milky tea and toast with marmite to celebrate. xx
Thanks Alice! My heart swelled the other day when I walked into my local bodega and discovered McVitie’s digestives..who would have thought?!
You look amazing, as always. And you’re English?? Oh man. So cool.
PS Those shoes are incredible!
Thanks so much. In the interest of full disclosure, I have to say that while the heels are perfectly comfortable to stand in, they are ridiculously hard to walk in and I say that as someone who wears heels everyday! I will not be defeated however and whether it is through sheer willpower or Olympian-sized calf muscles, I will strut in them!
Strut away! And wear something super comfortable the day after.
The skirt is so beautiful! And the heels are from zara? i have never seen them before and I’d normally say I know the zara shoe collection quite well
I’m sure your little british or “mother tongue” accent is very cute in american english, that is something that makes you special ,-)
xxx Anita
