fatherly style

dress: H&M; shoes: Gucci; bag: Rebecca Minkoff; necklace: TopShop; cuff: DANNIJO

Today marks two months since this site cast off into the sartorial sea to spread spritely style with a  good helping of cheer. I would not be where I am right now (cyber-ly speaking) had I not been allowed encouraged to get lost in my thoughts, frolic in daydreams and generally indulge in creative contemplation since I was a wee little thing. For this, I have to thank my father who always respected the importance of reverie even if it involved a five-year-old pretending to be Maid Marian (of Disney’s Robin Hood) by yanking on the cord to the Venetian blinds in my room as I ran about imagining I was being rescued by Robin (my mum was not pleased).

I feel very fortunate to have a dad whose preeminent wish for me is to be happy. Of course, his next greatest wish is for me is to quit being quite so extravagant. He has looked on with incredulity as I have tried to explain that when faced with a truly gorgeous garment, ‘want’ and ‘need’ become synonymous. I respect his wisdom and obviously ‘spend less, save more’ is advisable but have you seen these Karen Walker sunglasses?! I want and I need.

While old habits are hard to break, in honor of Father’s Day, I thought I would venture out into unknown territory and try to curb my lavish tendencies and be a bit more frugal (my grandmother would be so proud). I stopped into H&M this week and found this dress for…wait for it… seven dollars. What?! A slice of classy sophistication for less than the cost of a manicure? I find it hard to believe as well and yet the proof is here for all to see. I generally don’t think of my dad as a source of style inspiration but I have to offer him credit for this one. Thanks D!

Happy Father’s Day! Hope everyone has a great weekend.

    • When I first dyed my hair, I was really nervous about it clashing with red or pink garments but now I can’t get enough of the color play.
So glad you like it :)

  1. Nice dress. I’m also beginning to understand why women enjoy wearing dresses so much. I was joking with my supervisor, who literally wears a new dress every day, about how I rarely see her with pants on. She told me that dresses are comfortable and don’t require the hassle of putting together a typical outfit. In her words, she can just slip it on and leave out the house. Since you’re a dress expert, I want to know do you find her opinion correct?
