birds of a feather

dress: Zara; cardigan: H&M; shoes: Pour La Victoire; bag: Rebecca Minkoff; bracelets and earrings: DANNIJO

There was a Dos Equis ad that advised the best tack with women was to approach them ‘like wild animals. With caution and a soothing voice.’ I’m uncertain how well this applies to the female sex but I think it’s excellent advice for Monday mornings which are always a bit like hippos- from a distance they look peaceful, jolly and incredibly manageable but once they’re upon you, you realize they are looking for trouble and they are looking right at you with their razor sharp teeth and malevolent nature.

Don’t worry! We needn’t face the trials of a new week unaided. Our sartorial choices can offer much needed comfort and inspiration. I think something a little sweeter is called for in my own style choices. Here I have a darling Peter Pan collar playing off a jovial bird print. Paired with a cardigan, it’s an outfit that is cute and low-maintenance, just what the doctor ordered.

Lovelies, I’m hoping the rest and relaxation you experienced over the weekend has left you gung-ho for the week ahead but if not, what wardrobe staples do you reach for to ease the discomfort of a new week?!

Hope everyone has a great day!

  1. I would be lying if I did’t say I reach for my lulu lemon yoga pants… but alas I can’t wear those to work. Therefore my go-to item would have to be my black and white polka-dot sheer(ish) blouse. It hides all sorts of body-image woes and still looks cute paired with black pants, or skinny jeans.

    • It would be awesome if lulu lemon was office appropriate! (Perhaps they should consider this new market?!) But if elasticated waists aren’t an option, polka-dots sound like a lovely alternative.
      Hope you’re Monday is breezy!!

    • Careful what you wish for ;) When I’ve worked in very casual offices (read: jeans allowed) I really missed being required to dress up but now that I am required to dress up, jeans seem like such a luxury!! I guess the grass is always greener but we can still be fabulous wherever we are!!

  2. This Monday (and what seems like every Monday these days) I am putting on my chambray top over a flowy top. I just never feel my best on Monday mornings, which really makes no sense. Unless of course I chalk it up to having a great weekend and in that case, go me! Anyways, easy and flowy always works out.

    • It seems that comfort is of the utmost importance when we’re facing a potentially uncomfortable day. (Although now that the workday is almost over, I’m not sure what all my fuss was about.) I’m really loving the chambray look at the moment and may have to indulge so I too can be easy and flowy!

  3. Girl, you love your dresses, don’t you?! We should all have more dresses in our life (except maybe for you – you might be set for life already).
Hey, I have a question for you (and any other blogger who happens to be reading this): do you have any tricks to picking out your outfits every day? I just wrote a post on one of my little tactics, and I would love some feedback. I don’t really have any friends who obsess over their wardrobes like I do, so I have to hit up the blogosphere! The link to my post is below:

  4. I love the dress. Its super cute! Bird print is my favourite! I will now drag my bird print dress out for the upcoming week. Your blog inspires me to rework what i have….thanks heaps!

    • Bird prints do have a special amount of whimsy to them. So happy you like the dress and have something similar in your own closet. It’s so great when you remember a garment that you had completely forgotten about and then you can fall in love with it all over again!!
